Parliamentary secretary inaugurates 2 day training programme of MBSE in Mizoram

Aizawl: Pu Chawngtinthanga, Parliamentary Secretary today inaugurated the Inaugural Programme for High School Teachers on Scheme of Examinations and Question Setting Technique (13 and 14 May) organized by the Mizoram Board of School Education (MBSE) as the Chief Guest.

Addressing the teachers, Pu Chawngtinthanga said that teachers as the builders of the nation who play a very important role in developing society, they cannot afford to be negligent in their work and need to be dedicated fully in the service of learning. He urged them to update their knowledge, to be in sync with changing times. Outlining the fact that parents entrust teachers with the future of their children, they need to understand the immense responsibility, work with utmost diligence fulfilling the educational learning needs of their students.

He said that the success of the training programme can be felt by teachers only if they carefully evaluate the answers of students, studying them if need be and introspecting whether the teaching was enough for answering the questions. He added that the headcount of trained teachers increased every year but this increase has not been able to raise the quality of education and the standard of teaching and this was one of the reasons for setting up the Education Reforms Commission Mizoram, whose Report is expected to be submitted very soon.

Pu Laldawngliana, Chairman MBSE said that the Board has outlined a new syllabus according to the requirements of the National Curriculum Framework (NCF) 2005 and new textbooks have been prescribed from the current academic session. He added that the HSLC Examination 2010 would be conducted according to the new syllabus and hence the training programme would be of immense use to the teacher community. He requested the teachers to sensitize their colleagues in their respective schools about the techniques of effective question setting and impart the same training to them and only then would the training be successful.

The training programme is to be conducted in three phases covering all the districts of Mizoram ; today's training programme being the first phase covering Aizawl, Kolasib, Serchhip and Mamit districts. The second phase would cover Lunglei, Saiha and Lawngtlai districts and the final phase would encompass Champhai district. A sum of Rs. 2,50,000/-(Two lakhs fifty thousand) has been earmarked for conducting the training.

Today's training programme was attended by about 140 high school teachers from the four Districts.

Lalsawta's resignation not accepted: Mizoram CM

Aizawl, May 15 (PTI) Mizoram Chief Minister Lal Thanhawla today announced that Education Minister Lalsawta's resignation has not been accepted and he would resume work from Monday.

The chief minister praised Lalsawta for his uprightness and sense of responsibility and said he had not accepted the minister's resignation.

Lalsawta had tendered his resignation on May 11 owning moral responsibility for mistakes in the recent technical entrance tests for filling the state quota in technical institutions in the country.

Officials of technical wing of state higher and technical education department were responsible for the declaration of incorrect results and mistakes in marks evaluation and tabulation, Thanhawla said.

He alleged the officials of deliberately committing the mistakes to malign the government's reputation as they were loyal to the previous Mizo National Front (MNF) government.
