Crackdown on illicit liquor: DC Dimapur

Dimapur :   DC of Dimapur, Maongwati Aier has said that the prime agenda of the district administration for the year 2009 is to stop the sale of illicit liquor in Dimapur.

The DC, who termed liquor as ‘poison,’ said it is killing hundreds and thousands of Naga youths, ‘including officers and young and elderly men in the state’. The DC was speaking as the chief guest at the inauguration and dedication of monolith at TL Angami Park, New Chümukedima, in Dimapur, on Saturday.

Being a “dry state”, the DC said liquor  is coming in from Assam and other states to Dimapur and through Dimapur the supply goes out to other districts.

He put up the matter to his Karbi Anglong counterpart and also questioned the DC of Karbi Anglong ‘as to why there are so much of liquor shops near the Nagaland gate’. Aier also appealed to his counterpart to stop the sale of liquor near the gate.

Referring to the presence of small bars and shops that sell liquor, the DC said such business can be uprooted through a joint effort from various civil organizations and tribal hohos.
Aier assured that the district administration would launch a crackdown on such ‘poisonous business’ , prevalent at large in Dimapur.
